you about the new year's eve violence in san francisco last night. police in sacramento are investigating a deadly shooting near a fireworks show. our reporter mike lori tells us two people were killed three others were hurt. what happened out there, mike? >> reporter: well, dave, sacramento police say they have the shooter in custody. the 22-year-old gunman is in the hospital right now. he too was shot it turns out by an armed sure guard who intervened and actually stopped the deadly shooting before it claims even more lives. we do know that two people are dead and three injured following a shooting this tack place a at a bar in old sacramento. one of those dead is an employee, believed to be a waiter who worked in the restaurant. the incident forced the cancellation of new year's eve celebrations, causing thousands of people to head for home without any fireworks at all. here's what one eyewitness told us about. >> we heard gunshots. the dude came into that hooka place shooting. come back out. ran around the corner and was firing down the sidewalk. some guy with a baby

in old sacramento turned into a scene from the wild west. a shoot-out with wooden sidewalks splattered with blood. reporter david has more on the deadly bar shooting and the victims. >> reporter: a worker raked latex gloves and bloody bandages off the sidewalk in old sacramento where new year's eve revelers heard shots. this couple had just stopped to buy something from a vendor outside the bar. as they ran for cover a crowd came stampeding out of the bar, including a man bleeding. >> i saw this man collapsed, then another man was just a little farther. >> reporter: police say a 30- year-old woman was shot but is expected to survive. a 35-year-old man was shot and killed. so was a man for whom friends brought flowers to the scene this afternoon and who police say was working at the bar and tried to break up the fight. >> it wasn't even his day at work. he was filling in for somebody else. >> reporter: also injured was a security guard at the bar who had a gun and pulled it out. police say the guard and the shooter exchanged shots and were both wounded. >> so that's when the suspects st

their perspective. this issue is not about abrogating sacramento and our rights. -- second amendment rights. it is about reasonable limits on those rights. -- one area that has been deemed reasonable is the requirement for background checks. what many of us are saying is what already has been deemed reasonable should be a reasonable requirement when guns are sold regardless of how or where they are sold. i hope we can reach a bipartisan agreement on the reasonable limits requiring background checks when guns are sold. captain kelly, i do appreciate you started your testimony today by saying there is no perfect solution. there are all kinds of antecedents -- environmental issues and community issues that lead to gun violence but i believe we should do that which is reasonable because nothing is perfect. i believe one of the areas of focus for your organization, americans for responsible solutions, is the mental health part of what we should be addressing. do you have any key suggestions that congress can take to help address the mental illness problem? >> first of all, compelling states to s

-def doppler always scanning. see that little green thing at the top of your screen through sacramento? that's the radar beam. it always sends out a signal. the question is what is it receiving back? in this case it is receiving nothing back because there's no rain anywhere close to the bay area. high pressure is off to the west. we can tell this because the rule of nature is northern hemisphere where we live winds always flow clockwise around high pressure so watch the clouds going up toward canada and alaska and then coming back down. right now we are on the eastern fringe of the high that kept you cloudy with high, thin cirrus cloud cover at times today. tomorrow though the high pressure dome begins to move toward us so i expect full sunshine throughout the bay area tomorrow. but it will still be chilly. still on the eastern half of the high. and that means we are still getting our influence coming down from the north. so you have sunshine but highs generally in the mid- to upper 50s. by wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday, high pressure i

understand their perspective. this issue is not about abrogating sacramento and our rights. it is about reasonable limits on those rights. -- one area that has been deemed reasonable is the requirement for background checks. what many of us are saying is what already has been deemed reasonable should be a reasonable requirement when guns are sold regardless of how or where they are sold. i hope we can reach a bipartisan agreement on the reasonable limits requiring background checks when guns are sold. captain kelly, i do appreciate you started your testimony today by saying there is no perfect solution. there are all kinds of antecedents -- environmental issues and community issues that lead to gun violence but i believe we should do that which is reasonable because nothing is perfect. i believe one of the areas of focus for your organization, americans for responsible solutions, is the mental health part of what we should be addressing. do you have any key suggestions that congress can take to help address the mental illness problem? >> first of all, compelling states to share with the
